OOPS

Lovely evening with June only marred by the realisation that she had lost her wallet. Hotel receptionists fabulous and police informed. Tom rung but not in and June on the phone to credit card companies. More updates as they come. Watch this space.

Praying that St. Anthony will come through for Mimi and turn up her wallet.

Hang on! Does this mean I'm not getting the free lunch tomorrow?

Ann said...

Oh - no - the world is coming to an end- MP and Mimi in the same space and time???

OH NO!

(and MP I think you are correct.)

I'm staying at home then. She can show herself round the bloody Yorkshire Moors!

Seriously, does anybody know if her train tickets were in her wallet (and is a wallet a handbag or a purse?).

What a way to have your day spoiled. I'm so sorry Mimi. MP a wallet goes inside a handbag. So on your side of the pond it's probably a purse that goes inside a handbag.

wallet -- goes inside handbag or in pocket.

Oh no, I hope you find it quickly and in tact. What a headache.

HORRORS!!! This is terrible news. Prayers are soaring across the Atlantic as I type!

MP - a wallet is sometimes called a billfold. It holds your paper money and important ID cards, etc.

yuck. I hope that it turns out ok.

St. Anthony, GET TO WORK! Please. Dear Saint. Thank you. Love, Jane and +Maya.

Panic not. June has her passport, travellers cheques and train tickets. She has lost credit cards and a bit of cash. She is very clear that she was not robbed and thinks she dropped her wallet in a cab.

Sorry M.P. No lunch but she can at least get to you.

This is bad! Let's hope for the best!

MP - pay for lunch!!

Hope she finds it soon.

I am glad Mimi had a safe flight over. I am also glad that she is 'old school' and took some travellers checks with her. When I travel abroad, I only take my ATM card: the first thing I do in a new country is find an ATM machine and obtain some of the local currency. Now if I lost my wallet...

MP, buy her lunch and I will wire you the money! How much can three pints and aq dog biscuit cost??

You should all know me better than that by now. I marched her into the nearest post office and made her cash her travelers' cheques BEFORE lunch. Mind you we didn't get as far as the expensive restaurant I had in mind and had to make do with a cheap, though very tasty, pub lunch.

Mimi had a "Countryman's Platter."

He was ever so cross.

No, no, no. This has to be cleared up right now.

A hand bag is a hand bag - it is never a purse.

A wallet is what Ann describes if it is carried by a man. If it is carried by a woman, even if it looks like a wallet, it is a purse.

An old man could get away with carrying a purse (just) but if a young man needs a container for coins he would be advised to buy a key-purse and never to refer to it as a purse.

A lot of people think that English nouns do not have gender. This is rubbish. It's just that their gender is the name itself, not in the pronoun or ending.

Sorry, I forgot.

When a woman carries a hand-bag it is a hand-bag. When a man carries a hand-bag it is a bag.
